"Weird Animals" is Adam Sarmiento's fourth release under the name I and I and it continues in the genre defying modern pop mode that made the last album ("White Noise/Black Music") so compelling. The 6 songs of "Weird Animals" find I and I loosening up a bit and stretching out into to territory both more catchy and more sonically adventurous. The title track "Weird Animal" is an electronic punk gem that's sound could be described as the evil offspring of LCD Soundsystem and Daft Punk, or an American take on Phoenix and could have been alternately called "in defense of Charles Darwin". The other 5 tracks range from the dark moodiness of Madame X to the laid back Orbison-esque "The Middle". Some of the tunes were debuted live on I and I's recent Norwegian tour.
